Anna Sudha Community Kitchens (ASCK) is a nonprofit community kitchen based in Loudoun County, Virginia, dedicated to addressing food insecurity through freshly prepared meals, grocery assistance, and inclusive community engagement throughout the Northern Virginia. While Loudoun County is often recognized as one of the wealthiest counties in the nation, thousands of residents continue to struggle with food affordability due to rising housing costs, inflation, and financial instability.
Food insecurity in Loudoun County has increased in recent years, rising from approximately 4% in 2020 to nearly 7% by 2022. Additionally, nearly 24% of households—more than 34,600 families—fall below the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) threshold. These households earn above the federal poverty level but still cannot consistently afford essential expenses such as housing, childcare, transportation, healthcare, and food.
Through the dedication of our volunteers and community partners, Anna Sudha Community Kitchens currently prepares and donates more than 6,500 freshly cooked meals every month to shelters, schools, and families experiencing food insecurity across Northern Virginia.
What Do We Do?
Our mission is to spread love through food. We do this in two ways: donating meals and fundraising through food-based events.
Through the dedication of our volunteers and community partners, Anna Sudha Community Kitchens currently prepares and donates more than 6,500 freshly cooked meals every month to shelters, schools, and families experiencing food insecurity across Northern Virginia.
Anna Sudha Community Kitchens was created to bridge this gap by providing nutritious meals, grocery support, and community-driven volunteer opportunities that help individuals and families remain nourished while preserving limited income for other essential expenses.
Although ASCK’s kitchen is located in Loudoun County, the organization’s services extend across Northern Virginia, supporting individuals and families from neighboring counties as well.
Anna means 'food' and Sudha means 'nectar of love'. Anna Sudha Community Kitchen was founded by Nupur Panjabi out of her home kitchen in early 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic. She realized that the pandemic had significantly changed the food landscape in Northern Virginia and saw a marked increase in food insecurities. Unemployment was high. The lines at food banks were long, and grocery shelves were bare because of interruptions in supply chains. People had stocked up on shelf-stable groceries and were not getting fresh, healthy, nutritious meals. It was her dream to make freshly prepared food accessible to anyone who simply desired it.
